General information

Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) are wireless ad-hoc networks formed among vehicles on the roads equipped with short range wireless communication devices. Such networks are particularly attractive because of their potential to improve comfort and safety of people in modern urban and highway situations. With the increase of the number of people depending on cars and road infrastructures, VANETs have the potential to optimize traffic conditions, and to reduce congestions and pollution.

In University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest we conduct a number of research projects on VANETs. These projects are developed in joint collaboration with the Disco Lab Laboratory from Rutgers University, USA.

These projects propose the research and development of original models, methods and techniques targeting traffic quality. Such solutions target Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and VANET networks. The characteristics of these systems pose new challenges for researchers, especially because of the dynamic connectivity of VANET nodes, their geographical distribution and the volatility of the involved resources. The proposed methods and techniques will target the increase of traffic safety, air-pollution control and the decrease of congestions in urban environments. Also we target the development of protocols and technologies for the middleware, sustaining the efficient data transport, increased security and optimized fault tolerance.
